World Hypertension Day – May 17.

On May 17, 2015 marks the World Hypertension Day, promoted by the World Hypertension League. On this day various health institutions perform free blood pressure measurements.

High blood pressure is persistently elevated blood pressure levels (greater than or equal to 14 by 9) and can affect various body organs such as the brain, kidneys, eyes and especially the heart.

The date is important to make people aware of the consequences of high blood pressure in the body, with particular emphasis on the stroke (cerebrovascular accident).

The campaign theme in 2015 will be “Know your numbers” in order to raise awareness of high blood pressure in all populations around the world.
